The Iroquois County Public Health Department is seeking a full time, (M-F 8:30am-4:30pm) Director of Nursing. Under the direct supervision of the Iroquois County Public Health Administrator, the Director of Nursing directs, establishes, implements, maintains and evaluates goals and objectives for health-related services. Job Title: Director of Nursing

Department/Location: Iroquois County Public Health Department

Reports to: Public Health Administrator

FLSA Status: Salaried Exempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates, manages and evaluates all direct and indirect client services provided by personnel of the community health division.
  2. Provides guidance and recommendations to nursing staff and assists them in continually improving all aspects of health care services provided through agency personnel or subcontracted personnel.
  3. Assists in the preparation of the agency's budget.
  4. Interprets operational indicators to detect census changes and increases or decreases in volume which could impact staffing levels, revenues or expenses.
  5. Evaluates performance of public health staff annually or more frequently if appropriate.
  6. Assists staff to develop skills and techniques related to job performance.
  7. Oversees evaluation, hire, and termination of agency nursing and clinical health care personnel.
  8. Oversees the maintenance of client records, statistics and reports for purposes of evaluation and reporting of agency activities.
  9. Assures proper maintenance of client records as prescribed and in compliance with local, state and federal laws.
  10. Maintains or delegates the responsibility of adequate and appropriate inventory supplies and equipment for the provision of client services.
  11. Assists with the evaluation of organizational performance via performance improvement, productivity, quarterly and annual reviews assuring the quality and safe delivery of health services provided through the agency.
  12. Assures compliance with all local, state and federal laws regarding licensure and certification of nursing division personnel and maintains compliance to the accreditation standards.
  13. Stays informed of current issues in nursing and health care; shares information with appropriate agency personnel.
  14. Demonstrates understanding of the organization's mission and values through behaviors which supports this.
  15. Appropriately represents the organization to other groups, organizations and the general public.
  16. Ensures the accuracy of public information materials as appropriate.
  17. Protects confidential information by preventing unauthorized release, both verbally and/or in writing.
  18. Is dependable and meets acceptable attendance requirements at all times.
  19. Complies with all policies, procedures, safety rules and regulations.
  20. Serves as a representative of Iroquois County, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public.
  21. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Complies with accepted professional standards and practice including the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
  2. Must have excellent observation and assessment skills, good judgment, good oral and written communication skills and effective public relations skills.
  3. Demonstrates ability to supervise and direct personnel.
  4. Demonstrates ability to establish and enhance effective working relationships with the general public, school officials, community leaders, members of the professional organizations and governmental officials.
  5. Possesses ability to use own initiative in planning and executing services. Is self-directed with the ability to work with little supervision.
  6. Must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling all obligations.
  7. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured and is in good working condition. Documentation of current automobile insurance coverage is required.

Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:

  1. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, office facsimile and document imaging technology.
  2. Ability to learn and utilize online portal systems.
  3. Able to type at a speed necessary for successful job performance.

Education and Experience Required:
• Requires a minimum of a Registered Nursing Associates Degree or Registered Nursing Diploma / Degree. Bachelors or Masters of Science degree in Nursing from a college program which includes a practicum experience in public health nursing preferred.
AND
A current Illinois Registered Nursing License from the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
• Three years of experience in a public health related organization preferred.
• Continuing Education as required and/or requested by immediate supervisor.
• Possesses extensive knowledge of supervisory theory and practice.
