Notice of Inviting Bids - Animal Control

Department Description

Iroquois County Animal Control is funded primarily from the fee paid for the registration of dogs and cats. Pursuant to 510 ILCS 5, the fee collected shall be used for the purpose of paying claims for livestock or poultry, paying the cost of stray dog and cat control, impoundment, education on animal control and rabies, and other costs incurred in carrying out the provision as outlined in the statutes.

Animal Control requires that all owners of dogs and cats over the age of nine (9) months obtain a rabies vaccination and an Iroquois County registration tag. The county registration tag can be issued at the Iroquois County Treasurer’s Office with proof of vaccination or at a veterinarian’s office located in Iroquois County.

Animal Control also responds to calls for service concerning all animal bites, animal welfare, and problems relating to invasive dogs or cats throughout the county and unincorporated parts of the county. Animal Control will issue quarantines of biting animals to ensure that those bitten have not been exposed to an animal carrying the rabies virus. Animal Control is also responsible for impounding stray dogs or cats and for investigating claims of livestock killed or injured by dogs or cats. Fines and fees can be paid at the Iroquois County Treasurer’s Office. Please contact 815-432-4919 to have an officer contact you if you need to redeem a dog or cat.

We strive to reunite stray pets with their owners and find homes for unclaimed pets and for pets that the owner can no longer care for.
